On March 26th, the Colorado Chapter of ASMP (Association of Media Photographers) is hosting a discussion panel on the topic of photography's place in today's world of fine art. This event is in conjunction with the 2015 Month of Photography (MOP) with the support of Denver's office of Arts and Venues. It will take place from 5:30-8:00pm, March 26th at the McNichols Building located at144 West Colfax, in Civic Center.
The panel will be made up of several prominent people from the fine art community including: collector Paul Harbaugh, gallery owner Bobbie Walker, educator Angela Faris Belt, photographer Mark Sink, and Micah Messenheimer of the Denver Art Museum. Ray Rinaldi of the Denver Post will act as the moderator. With their knowledge and experience, what do our panelists look for in collecting, showing and selling photography for themselves and the organizations they represent? Considering a couple of recent sales, and the idea that everybody with a smart phone is a photographer, and a rather liberal view that all personal expression equals art, the evening promises to provide some interesting insights and opinions. Please come prepared with some some questions of your own.
This may also be your last chance to view the personal photography of local ASMP memebers in the show "It's Personal" and the Mizel Museum exhibit of the work of Philippe Halsman, both hanging at the McNichols building until March 29th. It is a great opportunity for artists, students, educators, collectors, gallerists, and critics to meet and exchnage ideas.
