The exhibition, curated by Christopher R. Perez during a recent studio visit in France, includes a selection of works by Isa Marcelli and Léa L’Azou. As mother and daughter, they work together as Les Photographeuses since 2012.They share a studio where they live, in Montigny-sur-Loing, at the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau. Surrounded by nature, their works reflects a poetic approach to daily encounters as well as unique interactions between figure and nature. The works in the exhibit are made using wet darkroom techniques including silver printing, tricolor gum prints over cyanotype and lith.
Born in 1958, Isa Marcelli creates works with a variety of traditional and historical methods since 2008. Her poetic and sensitive universe reveals the fragility of human existence in natural contexts. She has exhibited in Paris, Berlin, and most recently at the Garden of the Zodiac gallery in Omaha, Nebraska
Born in Paris in 1990, Léa L’Azou received a diploma in photography from the École de Condé in Paris in 2013. Lea works with medium and large format cameras, and focuses on using historical techniques such as pinhole, polaroid and wet plate.
