Paula Gillen’s artwork explores themes of psychology, social commentary and humorous disruptions of original and found imagery. Her images are created utilizing photography, digital photomontage, and paper collage. Influenced by Surrealism, Feminism, and The Pictures Generation her work is satirical, irreverent, and playful. Her background is in fine art and journalism. She worked as a photo editor/researcher in NYC for twenty years for major publications before moving to Boulder in 2008. She has exhibited her artwork in the Boulder/Denver area since 2008.
One of her latest photomontages "I Am Ready for My Superpowers" appropriates vintage materials to create an image that explores women's empowerment issues, space travel, and also serves as a what to wear guide for the future apocalypse. |
