Greg Amanti's work often begins with a misinterpretation of sights and sounds. This series encompasses many different materials, the majority of his work is built on a foundation of string and plaster. Greg starts with a sketch and then builds the illustration into a three dimensional representation.
Tempest is a stylized version of being immersed in various types of storms, out of which comes destruction, chaos and beauty. His intention is to dispel any artifice or illusion, to expose the detritus when viewed up close and at a distance the photos redefine the work into an inviting disarray.
Greg Amanti was born in New York's Hudson River Valley in 1971. He attended the Art Institute of Seattle with a focus in commercial photography. He has been included in two group shows at Mussi Artworks gallery in Berkeley Ca. and the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art. His work has been featured in Photographers Forum and won "Photographers Forum Award of Excellence". He currently works and resides in Denver Co. with one wife, two cats and loads of string.
