Concrete Abstracts
The photographic images are from the batteries in the Marin County Highlands just across the Golden Gate Bridge /from San Francisco and are now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The batteries were part of Fort Barry and Fort Cronkhite which housed large cannons to protect the harbor entrance during times of war. The concrete structures have developed a sort of rich worn look due to the harsh weather conditions. They have repeatedly become the canvas for graffiti artist and then repeatedly painted over. These images become abstracts to me by creating vignettes of the many layers of paint. The colors were then altered in post production.
