CVA - Semblance - First Friday Ballet Performance

Center for Visual Art: Metropolitan State University of Denver
Semblance presents lens and time-based works that share the elements of performance, ritual and illusion, exploring ambiguous boundaries between the real and the imagined. Artists: Sama Alshaibi, Neil Chowdury, Kim Keever, Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison, Laura Shill, and Janaina Tsch├Ąpe.
Curated by Tomiko Jones, Assistant Professor of Photography, MSU Denver and Cecily Cullen, Creative Director, CVA.
Guised, a world premiere video art exhibition, is a fox in sheep's clothing. The projects in Guisedcontain a riddle that at first appearance offers a non-threatening trajectory, but upon further examination, unfolds onto a far more pointed and often sinister implication. Artists: Ninar Esber, Jovan Erfan, Gary Setzer, Coriana Close, Hala Ali, Lantian Xie and Larissa Sansour.
Curated by Sama Alshaibi, Associate Professor of Photography/Video Art, University of Arizona.
The Emerging Artist Gallery will be devoted to work from MSU Denver students selected from a portfolio review. Selection was based on quality of the work and relevance to the exhibition theme. Artists: Chancey Bush, Blair Douglas, Kelsey Sailsbery, Evan Lee Miller, Holly Mills and Carolyn Nicholson.

CVA invited Colorado Ballet to choreograph a dance piece inspired by the works in the exhibition to be performed by nine 10-13 year old ballerinas.  Laura Shill has been working with the group on their costume design with a remarkable group of girls.  They will be performing their 7-10 minute piece in the gallery this Friday at 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm and 8:30 pm.
